  • Nail polish problem?

I have this nail polish I like I bought from the store and it keeps coming off so everyday I have to re-do it then it like gets all bumpy. Then it gets all over my skin which annoys the heck outta me because I gotta wash it off with nail polish remover. Any ideas?Nail polish problem?
one rule 3 stroke per nailNail polish problem?
FIrst, always start off with clean nails. Then apply a good quality basecoat. Don't skimp on the quality of the basecoat because not all basecoats are created equally. It pays to spends a couple of bucks extra to get good quality. Remember, clear polish will not work the same as basecoat, and should not be used as such. Basecoats serve a few different functions. First, they provide a barrier between your natural nails, and the polish. This helps to prevent staining from the polish - especially the darker shades. Second, it serves as sort of a double-sided tape in a sense because it adheres well to your nails, and it also provides a 'sticky' surface for the nail polish to adhere to. And polish will go on more smoothly when a bascoat is used. Clear polish does not do all of these things. Basecoat is essential.

As for polish, if it is in your budget to do so, then try to avoid the cheap brands. That doesn't mean that you need polish for $16 a bottle as some overpriced brands cost. But, stay around the $5-$8 range. Good ones are made by China GLaze, CND, Essie, OPI, and there are a few more.

First, never shake nail polish. Always roll it between the palms of your hands. Shaking it will create a LOT of tiny air bubbles which will show up when you polish is dry, and it won't look very good either. Apply polish in two thin coats. The second coat should be applied a few minutes after the first. It is fine if you wait for it to dry first, but it is also unnecessary to do so. Make sure that this is also a thin coat. Let this dry for about 5 minutes.

Then, finish it all off with a Fast Drying Topcoat such as Seche Vite, or Out The Door. They will not only dry quickly (within a couple of minutes), but they will also help to dry the layers of nail polish underneath it. One medium coat of topcoat is sufficient. And in this case too, clear nail polish is not the same thing as Quick Drying Topcoat. It will take forever for your nails to dry if you use clear polish because it does nothing to dry the layers below it.
Get a similar or same color of the nail polish from a different store.
Shake The Bottle Of Nail Polish And Then B4 U Start Painting Your Nails Do A Bottom Coat Of Clear And Then Wait For That To Dry And Then Paint Your Nails Any Color You Would Like And Then Wait For That To Dry Then put another coat of clear on it and it will stay longer
Dont buy cheap polish and make sure you leave time inbetween applying coats. I use OPI Chipskip, its a polish primer that balances the PH in your nails so the laquer will stick to it longer. It works great, my polish doesnt chip for atleast 2 weeks.
okay this is what i do

put the nail polish on and then put a clear coat over it and usually i put 2 clear coats over it but the clear coat should make it stay on and it makes your nails stronger [:
it means that this brand of nail polish isn't the best. you should try to find the same nail polish color that you want but in a different brand.
get new nail pollish or put some nail polish remover in the bottle and shake and then try!
get new nail polish, obviously its crappy nailpolish if you have to redo it
    get another nail polish
apply one coat when it drys apply another it should hold also it depends on the nail polish you have use sally hansen nail polish i use that and i dont have any problems

I m facing nail inheling problem in my thomb since last 3 years , what is best medicine except operation?

Lamisil is only 60% effective which means that 40% of people will not be cured and it also can damage your liver so blood work needs to be done every month that your taking it. You didn't say how old you are so if your older and on any medications, Lamisil may not be the best for you. There is a topical fungal polish out now called Penlac, it is applied like a nail polish (it is clear) and you paint it on the nail every night and remove it once a week with rubbing alcohol, it is safe to use for anybody but it is precription only and it can take a long time to work. Somebody else suggested vinegar and this is a good treatment for a bacteria that causes your nails to have a greenish discoloration but is actually not fungus. You can try it by making a solution of 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water and soaking every day for 20 to 30 minutes at a time.I m facing nail inheling problem in my thomb since last 3 years , what is best medicine except operation?
If your doctor told you it was a nail fungus, you can treat it with any inexpensive vinegar. Rub some on the infected nail every day until the old nail has grown out. The new nail should look healthy after that. Good luck.I m facing nail inheling problem in my thomb since last 3 years , what is best medicine except operation?
There is a medication called Lamisil that works really great for nail fungus. You will have to see your doctor to get it in pill form. However, there is also a Lamisil topical cream that you can use too. The pills work in your blood stream to heal.

Because the fungus is spreadable, you need to get treatment quickly before you infect your other nails on your hand.

There are a lot of home remedies but none actually work. The Lamisil will work for you. However, it does take about 3 months to actually heal completely.

    Good luck.

well i remember being young and doing it.. and my father put hot sauce on my nails but you'd have to be careful not to rub your eyes lol... what about putting a band-aid around each nail.. it may look weird but i mean it''ll be worth it in the end no?

the hot sauce worked for me though i havent bitten my nails since :).. or even try it on nail at a time.. protect one nail and bite what ever other ones you want to.. then once that nail has grown protect another nail.. slowly you should lose your interest in biting your nails :)

    thats all i can suggest..

but good luck :)Problem nail biter - HELP!?
Watch science programs on your body until you find stuff about your nails which probably will explain how many germs live under your nails.

You can get worms from biting your nails, believe me, it has happened to my friend before, and it is quite common for nail-biters.

Search for videos on youtube about your nails and the germs living in them and find a really detailed explaination then it might just put you off your horrible habit

    xxx LULU xxx
Honestly being in the medical field, if you only knew what lives under ur nails there are sooooooooo many germs....u also can catch a cold and get sick by putting them in your mouth...i would look on the web and read up on germs...just the thought grosses me out, it will gross u out to once u realize whats under there!! also paying for a $$$ mani will help u because u don't want to ruin your nails!!!!
wear gloves with a string attached and when u take ur glove off to bite your nail you will get an electric shock.

no idea how you are going to make it but its an idea lol

    Pale nail polish problem?

I like pale pink nail polish, like ballet slippers and angel food. The problem is it doesn't cover well, 2 coats still look streaky. Any ideas for better coverage with light nail polish colors? (And I, like most women, don't have time for 3 coats!)Pale nail polish problem?
you have to do a base coat. and make sure you have a nice ball of nailpolish on the brush. if the brush is dry and you don't have enough polish on it to cover one nail without dipping it again, it will streak.

and buff your nails before you paint them even with a base coat.

HELP!!!! i have a nail bitting problem?

I cant stop biting my nails..I put fake nail on but they just keep coming off.

I put this bitter stuff on but i got used to the taste...I cant help it. Idk why.

My nails are alllll blue and bruised up.

Any adviceHELP!!!! i have a nail bitting problem?
Try acrylic and gel fake nails, put on some AJINOMOTO (japanese thingy really gross trust e you WONT get used to this taste) and watch a video on parasites and disease and things that live on things u touch with ur hands...oh and get ur friends to slap ur hands and fingers whenever they see you bitting!

Hope that helpsHELP!!!! i have a nail bitting problem?
I used to have a bad case of nail biting too but it all went away with self-motivation from who else but ME! In order to avoid biting my nails, every time when I was bored or had nothing to do...the urge of biting my nails would come to mind and I would bite my nails. I knew it had to stop so each time my hands were coming towards me, I would think to myself...';do not bite it'. Eventually it all worked out and I stopped biting them. Try that. Self-motivation.
I have the same problem all you have to do is put gel deodarent on them, you know the stuff that you twist and gel comes out the top it tastes way worse than the bitteer stuff and makes your mouth dry and grose and believe me u wont get used to this taste! its also cheap.
Go to the Beauty Salon and get a nice manicure every 3 weeks. This will help keep your nails clean. Maybe even wear nail polish. This may be the solution since you wouldnt want to bite nail polish!

If the biting still continues, visit the salon more often and ask someone from the salon on how to prevent biting nails. They will probably give you some kind of product. I know this since my mom works in the nail salon.
omg...i didnt kno that biting yer nails caused worms in yer stomach.....eewww. lol. i hav the same problem too. i hate that habit. if yer a gurl...GET FAKE NAILS!! thats the best way for me....lmao. and if yer a guy.....well...i gess put tape around each finger...like alot of tape haha.
i substituted gum and tic-tacs for my nails. whenever i think about it, i just cram some gum into my mouth, or empty a whole can of tic-tacs.
Bite it real hard next time, and that should keep you away from the habit for life.
I have the same problem. Try going just increments at a time without biting. It's getting better for me.
Get Gell nails from a salon or u can put bandaids on ur fingers ... it'll cause u to not bite them or rub them all over a flavor that u hate lol . Good luck ;p
my mom would put garlic on my nails

    the juice

and it stopped from doing it

    hope that helps
OMG! SO DO I! IT';S SO FREAKIN ANNOYING!!
if you bite your nails you will get worms in your stomach!
put band aids on the tips of all your fingers

Hello, i am a qualified nail technician and i see alot of nail biters. In general it takes about 6 months for the nail bed to fully grow out. I think in this time the nail bed will attatch itself properly but this depends on if there isnt any permanent damage to the nailbeds. There is a fantastic product available here is Australia to help build healthy nails called ';Revitanail'; by Dr. Lewin im not sure if its available to you. Do consider Acrylic nails as a short term solution but be careful who you go to and make sure theyre only soaked off. If they are done properly they WILL NOT ruin your nails. Good Luck
trim them a bit and then grow them again.....

after sometime your nails will grow from top again.. it will happen slowly slowly.... the same problem of biting nails was with me but when i finally stopped bitting them they came to the top...... it took three years...... i'm not sure about how much time it will take for you to grow them to the again....

  • Please help me please! What is the fastest and best way to get rid of my problem about nails?

Hey, I have a problem. I have short nails because my pink part is very little. So any good way of solving this problem? Thanks a lot. Hope that the way can get it solved in 2 weeks' time? Please help me please! What is the fastest and best way to get rid of my problem about nails?
    Are you a nail biter?

If that's the case, since you separated the nail from your nail bed (the pink part) by gradually biting it off, it's gonna take time for the nail to grow back and reattach itself to the nail bed. This means that you have to stop biting it! It will definitely take more than 2 weeks.

What you can do is, you can go to a salon and get some pink and white acrylics. NOT tips, because having tips will make your nail bed look even tinier, but have the technician actually use white powder to sculpt the white part. For the pink, ask her for a pastel pink instead of clear so she can extend your nail bed for you.

Hope that helps! Please help me please! What is the fastest and best way to get rid of my problem about nails?
Did you used to bite your nails...thats usually the reason for a short nail bed. Theres nothing you can do really in just 2 weeks so I'd suggest going to a decent salon and having some form of artificial nail system applied. One of the most natural looking and kindest to nails is a silk wrap system, they can apply short tips with this. Also if you find a salon that offers this system it usually indicates that the technician is college trained as opposed to a 2 week course.
if you go to target or w.e. they have nail growing nail polish. it works good too. i use it. and there pretty long now and its been 1 week.
Go to a nail salon and get some artificial nails applied. If you have a special event in two weeks, that's your best solution.

Acetone Nail Polish Problem Please Help Me(Ladies Only)?

Hi. I had my nails done about 6 weeks ago. And about 20 mins ago, I had soaked my nails in the Acetone Nail Polish Remover. So when I peeled the nails off, the nail started sticking to my fingers and the Acetone has dried up on three of my fingers. I have the nails off but the Acetone is dried up on my fingers it kind of looks like my skin is peeling but it's not.

Please Ladies, how do I get dried up Acetone off my fingers?Acetone Nail Polish Problem Please Help Me(Ladies Only)?
a nail file...or concrete..Acetone Nail Polish Problem Please Help Me(Ladies Only)?
Technically, the acetone is already off. As it evaporates off your skin (very quickly), it sucks all the moisture out with it, similar to alcohol. If there's remaining residue, what you're probably looking at is the nail glue. Just use more acetone to scrub that residue off, then wash your hands and put some lotion on them, and the dryness will go away. I get pure acetone on my hands in lab all the time (not the most brilliant thing to do ever) and the dryness goes away pretty quickly.
the acetone bonded with the polish and glue. use more remover. then use a scrubby pad to remove the residue. i have never heard of the old acetone remaining on skin
omg your going to die now the acid has taken the very life blood and replaced it with acid and now you will die eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk鈥?now you be every known as the acid queen
If you have time, I would get a hold of your manicurist and maybe she would be able to give you something to remove it. If that's not good enough because of the time of day it is. I would just soak and put a blow drier to your nails and maybe it will become brittle and will dry up and fall off.

Gel nail ridge problem - damaged nail?

    Hi there:

I am taking a nail class in July as I want to learn how to do my own gel nails/toes, but in the meantime have been going to an Asian salon (I must admit, I go because it's cheap). The first time they did a great job, but this time I can still see a ridge on my nail and it looks like they drilled too much. Should I go back and tell them I am not happy? What exactly can they do to fix it? Thanks!Gel nail ridge problem - damaged nail?
What you have are called rings of fire. Its very common in salons like the one you go to because most of them are unskilled and do not do a good job on nails. Trust me when I say this. You only think they do a good job right now because you don't know any better. Once you have been properly trained, you will most likely be thinking to yourself, how could I ever have gone to one of those chop shops? Because only then will you be able to know there is a right way is to do nails - and a wrong way as well as what a set of nails that were done properly should look like. These salons use huge brushes and slop on the acrylic. The end result is a very flat, unnatural looking nail that is typically made from milky colored cheap acrylic. Its no wonder they always try to hide the shoddy work they do underneath a few coats of polish.

Now, what can you do to fix it? Absolutely nothing. You have no choice but to wait until it has grown out. There is no product that will fix it for you. The so called tech in one of these chop shops over filed your nails - as they typically do, and the result is what you see on your nails. If you want to avoid this from happebing in the future, then I suggest not going to a discount salon to have your nails done. Sure, it is cheap. But if you pay for cheap nails, you will get cheap nails.

I could go on all day about these salons and how they cheat the public by scamming them in so very many ways its not even funny. I honestly with the general public would stop giving their hard earned money over to these salons. They aren't worth it, believe me. But again, you won't be able to see that for yourself until you learn how to do nails the right way. Only then will you be able to see the light. Avoid discount salons at all costs...

Nail Polish Problem? Any Ideas? ?

So here's the problem...I like to make my own french tips by using a tooth pick and laying the nail polish across the top of my nails. The problem, is that although it's an even layer and isn't thick or thick nail polish, it never stays on. I use a clear top coat to make it look neat but the colored polish is easy to rub off, smears, and gets on things.

I use the same method on my toes and there's no problem

How do I prevent this from happening? Nail Polish Problem? Any Ideas? ?
you should bloww dry them for a few seconds then try itNail Polish Problem? Any Ideas? ?
its probably just cheap nail polish . you could get a specifc set where its for french tips at walmart maybe 10$ .

But its cheaper at the nail salon, here it's 6$ to do french tips.

cheaper than a good nail polish and french nail polish set and it stays on for about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks.
let your nails dry more. you can dry them faster if you put your fingers in a bowl of really cold water.
You can apply first coat to your nails let them dry for a minutes and then use the final touch with nail polish. It feels softer and not easily removeable.
It sounds like you're not letting it dry enough.

    Nail varnish problem?

I always use a scarlet nail varnish in the summer, but recently i've noticed that the actual nail has become stained a gross red colour, any ideas why this has happened? How can i get rid of it? xNail varnish problem?
    Hi

Its just something that happens because of the strong dye thats used in colours like red (my hot pink one does the same thing).

If you buy a base coat polish it and apply it before your normal vanish it will stop it from happening.

You can get them from most places. Rimmel do one thats quite good. I know rimmel doesnt always make the best products but their nail items are fab and long lasting.

    xNail varnish problem?
Hi I use a similar nail colour and I took mine off last night and my nails are definitely stained!

I used to always wear nail polish but after wearing it most of last year my nails were stained yellow and the same happened to my friend the only thing I found that works is not wearing any for a while :( let me know if you find anything that works!

And I've just re-read your question do you mean you wore the nail polish in the summer and it's only just become stained now? :S because that would be really weird haha, sorry I haven't been very helpful :)
    hi

the dyes are seeping into your nails,

too remove staining soak fingertips in lemon juice less harsh then polish remover ,or diluted remover

before applyinga new colour use either a hand cream and rub into nails or as advised use a base coat or do both ,

try and leave your nails polish free when possible as this gives the nails time to recover from the polishes ,

    all the best

    jo58
you should keep your nail varnish on for a little while, take it off and then paint them again :) that way they stay fresh and looking nice; and it won't stain aswell. i don't know what to suggest about the staining though. it should go if you wash your nails properly or something
yes its because the nail is slightly porous and over time it will stain. Get a nail buffer from the chemist and buff your nails a little to remove the colour. Next time, use a decent base coat before you use colour on your nails and it won't happen
you need to use a good base coat

    ALWAYS

and the 2 coats of polish

    and then a top coat

the base coat keeps the polish from staining and also helps the polish stick more

let all coats dry thoroughly before applying the next!!

    xx
It's proberly happened because there maybe some strong chemicals in the nail varnish you've used just dont put nail varnish on 'til it disappears and make sure you wash your hands with a good hand wash

    hope i helped :]

    Good luck!
Nail polish can stain the nail if worn for a prolonged period. using a base coat under the colour can stop staining.

    The staining will eventually disappear.
Soak your nails in diluted nail polish remover.

To stop it happening again - use a base coat.
I assume you sue a base coat and then put that one on top. It will fade in time though but for the time being just paint over it.
    visit the following url
soak your nails for bout 15 mins in warmish water and the juice of 1 fresh lemon.
    Ewwwwwwwwwwwww thats gross
never heard of that before but it will probably just take some time to go away

Also just keep thinking how much better they'll look once you stop! :DNail bitting problem?
    Hmm..

Maybe you could paint your nails. Cause i have a nail biting problem(well i use to) and I started painting my nails, and when i bit my nails,i hated the taste of the nail polish,so i stopped! and if you dont like want colors, just get a really light nailpolish, one you can almost not see. Also, you could cut your nails(with nailclippers) really short, then you wouldnt be able to bite them. Be careful not to cut them to short, cause when i cut my nails too short,it hurts. Just cut them short enough so that you cant really bite them, yet leave them long enough so they dont hurt. Hope i helpedd!!
I used some nail polish from CVS or Walgreens that is bitter. It's kinda like the stuff to repel dogs from certain areas. If you cant find it, get a can of aerosol computer cleaner. It has a bitterant in it and tastes awful. Spray it on your nails 2x a day. It won't harm them or you. Worked for me. Keep it up till you no longer want to bite them. If you get an urge to, start the remedies again. Good luck!
well you have to stop stressin yourself out..you culd be stressed and dont even know..fix your urges by chewing gum to keep your mouth busy...and this didnt work for me but get some aloe..like the plant and rub it on your nails..it takes hours to work the taste out of your mouth..hope this helps
I used to bite my nails so i got this http://www.auravita.com/products/aura/me鈥?/a>

You use it like a normal nail varnish but it tastes REALLY BAD!!!

So it stops you from biting your nails.. also you could wear a hair bobble round your wrist or something so whenever you got to bite them you just play with the bobble.. :)

    Good Luck!!!
you could get like some silly putty or something to play with to keep your hands busy

you could go to a pharmacy and buy some bad tasting nail polish
Once you find yourself biting them, put them down

or you could put nail polish on your nails, so when u bite it, it would make you not want to bite it anymore
Dip your fingers in lousiana hot sauce every day. Worked for me. :P

It also gave me soft fingertips. ^_^
Put nail polish removal with bitrex on your nails.Tastes terrible. It won't wash off right away.
i know i bit my nails too!!!! its hard to stop but if you get fake nails that might work :)

  • Son has nail biting problem?

My son is 4 and chews his nails down to nothing! I tried clear nail polish thinking this would gross him out but he still does it. Any ideas of what I can use to break the habit?Son has nail biting problem?
My son had the same horrible habit for about 4mos. I noticed that his nails were getting smaller and smaller as the weeks went by. Everyday I would scold him for biting his nails and I would tell him to give me his hand so I could see if he bit his nails b/c he knew he wasn't supposed to. One day it just stopped. As far as putting nail polish on your child, wouldn't suggest that at ALL. Check w/ his pediatrician and see if they can recommend something.Son has nail biting problem?

My guess would be dry nails and a vitamin deficiency.

I have a problem I cant stop biting my nails. I have the stop and grow nail polish but it doesnt work..?

You will have to substitue a new behavior for the nail-biting such as lollipop licking, applying lotion, squeeze ball, etc. To break a bad habit, substitute a healthier one. Give it some thought. You can do it. In the meantime, consider stress-reduction such as getting enough sleep, strenuous exercise, yoga, deep-breathing, progressive relaxtion, etc. to help calm yourself as well.I have a problem I cant stop biting my nails. I have the stop and grow nail polish but it doesnt work..?
Biting your nails is past on threw your genesI have a problem I cant stop biting my nails. I have the stop and grow nail polish but it doesnt work..?
You have the urge to chew off any rough edges. Use an emory board instead. Carry it with you at all times and use it when you get the urge. Any way is to get fake nails applied. You will love the idea of having long nails and your real nails will get a chance to grow out under them. Get regular manicures to keep them looking good.
have some acrylic nails put on at a salon, that should solve the problem.
I have tried the same thing too. I even tried to get press on nails. I have tried everything there is in the book. Nothing has worked. But when you think that you have found a good solution please let me know.
    What's bothering you? It's psychological.

  • Problems with nails being really flexible.?

My fingernails bend over really easily and wonder why they're not harder. Am I lacking something in my diet. Please don't say calcium, as I drink alot of milk and also take calcium supplements. Thanks.Problems with nails being really flexible.?
Well, if it isn't calcium, as you said, I'm not sure really... it may be your iron, but that doesn't make much sense, becaus iron has to deal with your blood.

Ah, I found the problem, Zinc. It's a Zinc deficiency. Meat, shellfish, fish, crumbly cheese and eggs. :) Thanks to Times Online.

For a temporary fix you can paint your nails. I think my nails are stronger when I paint them. Even clear nail polish. And, as a matter of fact, I think they make nail strengthening polish, but I'm not entirely certain about that.

So feel free to check the source that I cited here, and I hope your nails get stronger. Good luck!

Physics problem: nail driven in board?

A nail driven into a board increases in temperature.

If 60.0% of the kinetic energy delivered by a 1.80 kg hammer with a speed of 7.80 m/s is transformed into heat that flows into the nail and does not flow out, what is the increase in temperature of an 8.00 g aluminum nail after it is struck 10.0 times? (answer in degrees C please)Physics problem: nail driven in board?
    use this formula

    60/100 * 1/2 * 1.8 * 7.8^2 * 10 = 8 * Cp * delta T

you should know the Cp of Al to find the delta T in J/gK, i will not do it for you.Physics problem: nail driven in board?
    Kinetic energy of hammer = 1/2 mv虏 = 1/2 (1.8)(7.8虏)

60 % of kinetic energy is delivered per hammer strike.

    Energy delivered per strike = 60% of [1/2 (1.8)(7.8虏)]

    = 0.6 X [1/2 (1.8)(7.8虏)]

    = (0.3)[(1.8)(7.8虏)]

There are 10 strikes so total energy delivered is

    10 X (0.3)[(1.8)(7.8虏)]

    = 3[(1.8)(7.8虏)]

    = 328.536 Joules.

Equate this to energey absorbed by nail mc螖T

    Where m = mass of nail = 0.008 kg

c = specific heat capacity of aluminium

    螖T = temperature rise

    mc螖T = 328.536

    螖T = 328.536 / mc

    螖T = (328.536) / (0.008c)

Just plug in the value for c and you have your answer.

GUYS.. I have a nail-bitting problem.. what are ways I CAN STOP! it getting ridiculous :(?

I myself am a nail biter as well. I have been since I was 2. Now I have quit biting them several times, but I always go right back to biting them. I have found that the thing that really works to quit is determination. You have to have it set in your mind that you are not going to bite your nails, and you won't. Then I would normally use a Sally Hansen growth nail polish. Those normally work really well to help your nails grown fast, and once you see the growth, you won't want to bite. Atleast that's what always worked for me. Good luck!!GUYS.. I have a nail-bitting problem.. what are ways I CAN STOP! it getting ridiculous :(?
I was a biter for years until my doctor told me something.

Biting your nails is like licking a doorknob.

Think of all the bacteria!GUYS.. I have a nail-bitting problem.. what are ways I CAN STOP! it getting ridiculous :(?
In the nail care section of your local drugstore, they'll have polishes that taste very bitter to curb nail biting.

Try that, or get some hard candy to suck on to keep your mouth occupied.
there is a chemical you can get that when put on your fingernails will make them taste really really bad. see a pharmacist or a doctor for it.
Well I have a bitting-nail problem too so why not try to not think about not bitting your nails!
i have that same prob! i just get fake nails then u cant bite ur nails cause they r covered up...
a really hard habit to break..idle time, may contribute to it, long periods of driving, sitting in front of the tv, and inactivity all contribute to nail biting.

stay active, busy hands rarely find their way to your mouth..
they have stuff you can put on your nails is taste really gross so you won't bite them. it doesn't work for me cause i pick and pull at my nails with my fingers
I always heard that biting your nails gives you really bad breath.

Try getting your nails done at a salon.
i had this problem, i used 2 do it went i gt nervous, weneva i feel like biting my nails i chew gum n after a while i c how nice my nails r looking n it put me of bitin them. u cud jus get fake nails, they look nice n u can bite u real nails so they can grow or u cud get some of that nasty tasing stuff u put on ur nails xx good luck xx
Sally Hansen and several other nail-polish companies produce a nail polish that tastes pretty awful. There's also a product that's often available in nailpolish aisles of stores that's called NoBite. It does the same thing. Hopefully, the terrible taste will wean you off your nail biting habit. Goodluck!
There is this stuff called ';stop the bite'; it is really nasty so when you bite your fingernails, it will make you stop. You can buy this dtuff at walmart. I promise it helps ive used it before
well to tell you the truth you can get anal worms from bitting your nails by the way i am a doctor
i had the same problem, this is what i did..

i started going for regular manicures once 20-30 days.

i always kept a fresh coat of nail polish on,

like change every 3-4 days (buy some really cute colours)

i always applied a strengthening nail base, like sally Hansen's maximum growth...

having dark nail polish on kept me from putting my nails in my mouth as all the yucky flakes get into ur mouth as well.

as i kept this up for a couple of months,

my nails grew longer and once i saw how great they looked i stopped biting them completely.

i think u should try it too.....
i had that too so i got acrylics put on over them so i couldn't bite them. :-P also, they have bite-no-more polish that tastes AWFUL, you could try that too. now, i just keep them pretty and manicured so i feel bad messing them up haha.
    Just stop.
Why do you feel like only guys can help you with this problem?
I used to pick at my nails and keep them tore off. So then I bought a 99 cent nail file to carry with me. And anytime I felt the urge to tear at them I would whip out my trusty file. Now my nails stay long and no more bothersome snag nails. It also has a calming effect to know that I am helping my nails and keeping my fingers busy.

    Happy Happy

    ( + ;
well. 1st of all you cud buy some lotion stuff from the chemist. it a special stuff which you put on your nails and taste horrible so it stops you biting.

also next time your biting take note of when you do it. if you can begin to identify when you bite your nails you can make a conscious effort to stop.

ooo, just thought of another thing.... i find that i bite my nails when part of it is slightly longer than the rest (if that makes sense), so always keep them well filed looking nice. the nicer they are, the less likely you are to bite them.
in the salon, i see this all the time and the best way i have found to solve this is to get fake nails whether or not its acrylics or some type of wrap.
here's what my mom did to me and my sisters. first, she filed off the ugly edges and put some nice nail polish on them. then, she rubbed onion on the top of our nails. there's really 2 things going on there. one, when your nails look nice, you're less likely to want to ruin them, and two, if you forget and start biting, you'll get that ugly taste. My little sister still didn't stop so my mom rubbed jalapeno on her nails. just make sure its just on top otherwise it'll burn.
Put bandaids on the tips of each finger.
This has to be one of the hardest habits to break, but it can be done. Here are just a few ways to make it easier.

    1. Decide that you are going to stop. Pick a day and say that's it. No more nibbling. Now here are a few little ways to help.

    2. There are some bitter tasting liquids that can painted onto the nails. I don't know anyone who actually liked the taste, so this is going to slow you down and give your nails a little time to start growing.

    3. The minute you wash your hands, re-apply the liquid mentioned above. This will also focus attention on your hands and the nails which should be visible by now.

    4. Keep an emery board in every room and one in your backpack or purse. The minute you notice a snag, use the emery board and not your teeth.

    5. Buy a few bottles of pretty polish and some hand cream. You are going to keep your nails polished and your hands soft. In a weeks time, you are going to notice a difference.

    6. Once a biter, always a biter. I have stopped, but it only takes a snag for me to revert back to old habits. I have to follow these tips too.

    7. You might have been looking for a magical way to stop biting your nails, but I'm afraid that there is no such thing. You simply have to put your mind to it and stop!

    8. Will power is an amazing thing. If you want something badly enough, you can do it. If you want pretty nails, you are the only person who can stop it from happening.

Nail biting problem, nothing is working?

I have been biting my nails for as long as I remember. I tried to stop many times. Yes I used the nail polish, put it on every day for weeks. Didn't help. I tried using gum when I felt the need, didn't help. I tried fake nails and yes that didn't help either. Nothing seems to work. How can I stop it, I want to stop.Nail biting problem, nothing is working?
It's a nervous habit. I used to crack my knuckles when I got anxious. Just become aware of what you're doing and what's going on at the time.

Come up with something else to do. Like instead of cracking my knuckles when I get nervous, I wanted to make a point to do something else and I accidentally started picking at my cuticles. So now i just acknowledge that something has me anxious and I tell myself I'll be fine and do some deep breathing.Nail biting problem, nothing is working?
mix fresh lemon juice %26amp; nail polish remover.

put them on your fingernails, you'll probably stop biting because of the nasty taste.

    you could also use Tabasco.

Who wrote';if the only tool researchers have is a hammer every problem is a nail';?

I need the specific reference - I see where it is attributed to Maslow but no specifics as to where and when he said it, if indeed he said itWho wrote';if the only tool researchers have is a hammer every problem is a nail';?
From everything I've seen, there is no specifics on the origin of the quote (I just have google, no books in front of me) However, the quote seems so famous that you can quote it as is and be fine with it.

another way to do it is to quote the source that you attribute it to (it may not be the original, but if you are taking the quote in the same context, it works)

When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail. Abraham Maslow

    http://www.chemistrycoach.com/research.h鈥?/a>

good luck, because it may of been something he said orally, and if it is that is not going to be easy to find.

This text says he ';commented';, which is probably a hint that it was orally.

http://tinyurl.com/menxuWho wrote';if the only tool researchers have is a hammer every problem is a nail';?
do you think this statement is true?
It was written by Abraham maslow, but was changed quite a bit. Originally it said ';I am such a tool, no wonder I never nail anyone,'; eventually it changed when he got married.

Our floors are painted/varnished with lead based paint. I want to cover them up..nail down hardwood a problem?

If I nail into the pine flooring that has the lead paint on it...could that create dust? Safer to just lay engineered wood over the top? thanksOur floors are painted/varnished with lead based paint. I want to cover them up..nail down hardwood a problem?
If you don't sand the old finish it should not create any dust particles in the air from the original lead based paint. To my knowledge there is not any lead in varnish. Our floors are painted/varnished with lead based paint. I want to cover them up..nail down hardwood a problem?
Lead based paint is only a problem if exposed or (God-forbide)..eaten in chips when a child is hungry. You could cover it with carpet or wood. If you use wood, do NOT nail it down. (Countersink with wood screws, or countersink a galvenized nail),,,it depends on a lot of things (the age of the studs, the type of wood.

If it were me, as beautiful and hard to find pine floors are, I'd put a thick coat of varnish on the pine floors (after countersinking all nails and filling all cracks---no matter the colour).

You are sooooooooooooo lucky to have Pine floors...please research them and don't cover them with new hardwood or carpets.

  • Any suggestions for home remedies to cure thick toe nail problem?

Ever since I had kids (3 yr old and 5 month old) I pretty much make them a priority and do the necessities for myself, eat, shower, and so on. So, I've had this toe nail problem for quite sometime, I would say at least a year...my right foot has a couple toe nails (the big toe, and the one beside it) that are really thick and yellowish in color, and when I trim them, they are flaky and have a bad odor...I know, this is REALLY gross, but anyway, as long as it wasn't affecting my kids, I just dealt with it, but I was just clipping my daughters toe nails and I noticed that one of her big toe nails looked a little thick and now I'm really nervous! I didn't think a foot fungus was contagious, but I'm thinking she might have whatever I have...any solutions for this? I will go to the doc if needed, but I don't want to be on any type of antibiotics because I'm breastfeeding my 5 month old...by the way, my toes don't hurt at all...I just thought my right foot was on the ugly side, lol.Any suggestions for home remedies to cure thick toe nail problem?
This is a fungus and you can treat it with an over the counter anti-fungal cream. It will probably take a year before you see results - this is a long, slow process. After you are finished breastfeeding, you can talk with your doctor about prescription pills for this but it doesn't speed up the process much and these pills are hard on your stomach. See what your doctor recommends. Any suggestions for home remedies to cure thick toe nail problem?
toe fungus do you scrub and dry your toes? athletes foot starts like this , they have lamicil for fungus , you can try athlete foot stuff, but your better off going to the Dr, podiatrist i would spray your tub after you bathe , lysol / bleach tub cleaner, the urine trick is usually used at prisons to kill athletes foot you pee on your feet toe nail fungus is not the same
First. Pee into a container. Then keep your feet in their for 2 hours. You should see immediate reasults because the substace is very strong. If you see foot pain stop that and see a doctor.

Help me with my rabbit's nail problem?

my rabbit's ear is wounded because of his nail problem its long and pointy i dont know how to cut them down... is it all right to use a normal nail cutter? until what length do i need to cut the nails help me.....Help me with my rabbit's nail problem?
Pet shops sell nail cutters for rabbits and other animals, they're not very expensive so you could ask in there :].

You don't want to cut the quick, which is the vein in the nail. You can see this unless your bunny has black nails. Cutting the quick isn't pleasant for a bunny, usually it will bleed and it feels like if you were to accidentally cut your finger while trimming your nails. So it isn't an unbearable pain but it's something you should avoid.

I was too scared to cut my rabbits nails so I took her to the vet and they showed me how. It can take a bit of getting used to and usually the rabbit won't want it to be done. Most rabbits hate their feet being touched, but if you touch them each day they'll get used to it. It's good to have two people, one to hold the rabbit and the other to do the trimming.

You do need to cut the nails though, in the wild rabbits are running about and the ground trims them for them so to speak, but not our pets!

Good luck, you'll get it, just be patient with your bunny and pat them/talk to them while you're doing it to reassure them. They have 18 claws in total!Help me with my rabbit's nail problem?
Yes, you should trim your rabbit's nails if they get too long.

The natural way is to allow your rabbit to dig.

If you need to use clippers (dog type) to shorten your rabbit's nails then locate the vein that runs up the middle of the nail. Do NOT cut this, leave the nails a little longer than the vein.

If you can't see the vein because the nails are black. Look at the underside of the nail, there is a V in the bottom of the nail, where the nail is ';hollow';, cut the nail at least 2mm longer than this V. If the nails are excessively long (curling) then reduce the length by 5mm progressively over time (several weeks), to allow the vein and nerves to shrink back in the nail.

If you do cut the vein, this will bleed profusely. If you don't have a styptic pencil to halt the bleeding, apply pressure until the bleeding stops.
While any small pet nail clipper will do, there are nail clippers on the market designed specifically for rabbits. Check out the link for rabbit nail care products. It's important for your rabbit's health to have his nails at the proper length, so look into getting a quality rabbit nail trimmer.
You can use the nail clippers that you use for yourself as long as the rabbit isn't one of the giant breeds. They would need a dog nail clippers.

Cut to just before the quick. if you do cut it too short you can hold some flour on the nail and that will stop the bleeding.

The rabbit will not bleed to death if you do acidentally cut it too short.

    best of luck=D

hope i helped=D2 QuESTIONS IN ONE!!! [[NAIL PROBLEM]]?
wow, read as ';anal problem';, phew

wear gloves all the time, get some light, air circulating gloves and that should be the end of that
First off, you need a reason why you want to stop. Obviously, here, you're wanting to...but is it because you think it's an icky habit or because you want beautiful, luxurious nails? Or simply strong nails?

Even though your nails are currently bitten down, try to give yourself a manicure--or if it is in your budget go to a nail salon. [Not a french manicure; with the current state of your nails, this will not look flattering.] You should try, with an emery board/nail file, to even out the tip of your nail as much as you can so it does not look ragged; if you go to a salon, your manicurist will do the same. Look up how to give yourself a manicure if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Bask in the beauty of your nails! That will discourage you from biting your polished nails. Avoid changing your polish any more than once in a week, because nail polish remover can be harsh on both your nails and your hands. On top of that, there are polishes out there that are bitter or sour that leave a foul taste in your mouth when you try to nibble. If my first suggestion doesn't work, then definitely look into deterrents such as Kick the Habit.

Now, if you can curb your nail-biting habit, you'll be pretty surprised on how quickly your nails grow. I personally haven't noticed TOO much in the way of results from the topical growth treatments [polishes] for your nails unless they're simply strengtheners/hardeners. For growth, you need to need to be sure your diet has lots of Vitamins D, C, and E as well as calcium and Omega 3 found in fish oil supplements-I suggest picking up a standard multivitamin to achieve this. [Don't be put off by Fish Oil if you haven't used it before--it's in a tablet or gel-tab just like any other vitamin and no, you can't taste it] Most Vitamin companies actually have a suite that is directly for the purpose of nail and hair growth. If you can stomach a glass of milk a day, drink one! It will help.

    Wear gloves [they make some that aren't so bulky and awkward, now!] when you do dishes or are involved with any sort of harsh chemicals [bleach, household cleaners] that can and will make your nail weak. Do not get artificial nail enhancements such as acrylics, gels, or even the cheap press-ons from the drug-store. Gel nails can be beautiful, but with all artificial nail enhancements there is a price-the health of your natural nail. $100 for the initial set plus at least $30 fills is not financially sound...it would be better to use grow them out naturally so you can say, ';I don't need that fake stuff.';

Use the pads of your fingers for typing, dialing phones, etc-not your nails! Despite that previous statement, LIGHTLY tapping your nails on a hard surface occasionally [desk, etc] has, in some people, shown to promote growth. I have no idea why, but I have read it in several places and it seems to be the case for me as well. Emphasis on lightly, there, though! Also, avoid using the tips of your nails as tools for picking things up or opening cans; slide things into your hand and use the side of your finger to pop a can open.

Once your nails do start growing out, file them into a workable shape for you. Don't let them just grow out ridiculously; a couple millimeters of white at the tip is good; a lot of people like an oval or squared-oval shape for their nails, but a good rule-of-thumb is to go by the shape of your cuticle. Then, really, it's just keeping them looking nice by weekly or, at that point, bi-weekly manicures will keep your nails lovely and you definitely won't want to be biting them, then! [A salon manicure a week would probably kill most of our budgets, so maybe a salon once a month or once every two months, and then you do the maintenance in-between.]

    Good luck!
they make this really nasty tasting nail polish that you put on your nails and when you bite them it is like super disgusting and you feel like your gonna throw up. If you wear that it should help you break your habit.
well, if you go into a pharmacy there is something where you paint your nail with a clear coat and it help you stop biting your nails

then you can try taking vitamins, my moms nails are so long and it looks healthy
your the only one who can stop biting your nails.. no one is gona make you. So just remind yourself not to everytime you feel them in your mouth or tell your friends or relatives to remind you. This should also be your answer for the second question too. IF you stop biting them they will grow.
well there is this stop nail biting polish that you put on your nails and everytime you bite them they just taste so nasty so it makes you stop.

and if you want them to GROW..you better stop BITING them.

biting your nails will not make them grow.

also like you said there is the nail polish that is called ';quick-grow'; and it grows your nails quickly.

then you can always go and get some gel tips at the salon but cost-wise your looking at around $100 at a cheap place.

    but they look gorgeous
okayy, i no this might sound disgusting but try putting somthing u dnt like the taste of on ur nails or soap this way it will taste gross and u wont bite them.

Or go on the website i added at bottom (its very helpful)

2nd Q: I use a nail growth i got from boots, its really good but except not biting them i dnt thinks theres another way for them 2 grow

    :) hope i helped x
Put some nail polish on it and and then when you go to bite it, it will taste horrible, i used to have the same problem.

And to the seconds question, i sometimes use this nail polish stuff called

' ORIFLAME GROWTH BOOSTER ' i'm not sure where you can get it from, but if you have a look on the internet you might be able to find it.

    Good luck =)
I stopped biting my nails by realizing that I knew I was doing it. When you are about to bite your nails, look at them and say, I want long pretty nails, I'm not going to bite them. I know that sounds really dumb, but it really did work for me. I also found that a lot of the reason was I needed to do something with my hands, because I am figity. So carry a stressball, play doh, something along those lines to occupy your hands. Good luck, its really not that hard. After a week you most likely won't go back!

From what ive heard, and I have never done this myself, since I don't bite and my nails grow fast, olive oil helps them grow quickly, as in submurge your nails in it for a few minutes. I can't confirm that with personal experience, but other girls have told me they swear by it.
A lot of people bite their nails just like you. Buy some clear nail polish and put it on your nails so that when you bite them it will taste nasty and you'll stop. They also sell nail polish specifically for nail-biting issues at most drugstores.

There's no way to make your nails grow faster other than eating healthy foods like veggies and fruits, and taking care of them. Clip them a little bit so they grow straighter.
Go to walmart and buy the nail polish that says KICK the HABIT. It's clear and it's especially made for that problem. You need to take vitamins... it sounds nasty but the vitamin in fish oil makes both your nails and hair grow.

Pet rabbit has a nail problem?

Okay so there is something wrong with my rabbits nail. It looks like its dead and close to falling off. Its hanging at a weird angle and its all black (her nails are clear with a bright pink quick). The black concerns me since it could be septic, but it isn't bothering her at all. Shes still running, digging, eating normally, she seems totally oblivious to it. I'm thinking maybe she caught it on her cage and her body just diverted the blood flow from it. There was no blood on her paws or in her cage. She has really long fur so we didn't notice anything unusual until just now. The vets around here charge $100 just to walk in the door, and shes not in any pain nor does she have any symptoms of being sick, so I'm wondering if anyone can identify what its doing and any way to help the natural healing process along. We're not going to the vet, because she feels fine it just looks gross, and rabbits have amazing natural defenses. I'm just making this clear because any problem with an animal usually results in a dozen one-line answers saying go to the vet. That is not what I'm looking for, so please don't waste my time.Pet rabbit has a nail problem?
maybe...its just a dead nail, when i hurt my toenail (ouch), it went black...

anyways, dont try and pull it off, it`ll fall off in its own time, just keep a watch on it, because the angle it hangs at it could actually stab your rabbit...if its sharp... just keep checking because it MIGHT not be a dead nail...im not sure what else it could be, but if its or the rabbit gets worse take it to the vet, or get a friend (that knows animals) to give you a hand

    hope this helps,

    Guest dog paw/nail problem?

I was left to care for a friend's dog while she was out of town. He has very long nails. On his front left paw, he has one long nail that is broken and frayed at the end. Stuck to the corresponding paw pad there seems to be a nail piece that I believe is a part of the broken nail. It is coming out from the side and it looks like a nail. Im really not sure if it has penetrated the pad, or if is just crusted on there as it looks pretty old. The whole paw pad is crusted with what looks like debris and asphalt since this is a dog thats always outside on hard surfaces. It looks easily removable, but I can't distinguish if that piece is a nail (or something else) going INTO the paw, or just crusted to the side, as the paw pad has newer debris that covers it.

I can move it up and down, and it seems like it has been in the paw for a while, and not really an immediate concern for infection. It doesn't seem to hurt him and he doesn't have any problem at all walking, but it looks concerning. I can pull it down off the pad to a point where it looks like it might just peel off, but he gets wary when I do that, and he doesn't yelp or anything, but I don't want to exacerbate the problem if it IS a problem.

He also has another smaller fragment on that same paw that looks like a nail piece as well, but again could be something else.

I wanted to know if anyone else out there has had or has heard of a problem like this before, and what was done to resolve it. I will ultimately take him to a vet, although if this is a common problem or one that is easily rectified, I'd rather do it myself and save the vet fees. It could be debris, but it is the same width and color (light) as his nails.

His owner has several other dogs, and they are all outside dogs, and she's usually very busy, so this may have been overlooked for a long time. I told her about it, and I'm going to take him to a vet if all else fails, but again, I'd like outside opinions, thanks.Guest dog paw/nail problem?
I would recommend taking him to the vet to make sure it isn't a vascular growth. It's not uncommon for dogs to develop growths on their paw pads. Many times they're just keratinous growths (kind of like corns) and can be clipped off with nail clippers (although these growths are more common in cats I have seen one or two on dogs). But without actually seeing the thing I would not advise taking the nail clippers to them yourself just in case they are vascular as they will bleed horribly if they are. Either way, it sounds like this dog needs his nails trimmed. Long nails are not only a cosmetic thing, they are also a potential hazard as they can get caught up on things and tear which is very painful. And in older dogs they interfere with how the weight is distributed on the feet which can exasperate arthritis.Guest dog paw/nail problem?
i would take to vet. it may have been there long enough to not show pain.

I have a nail problem, I seriously need help?

I'll try to make this clear, in the spot between your nail and your skin (where you cut your nails), there's this sort of translucent thing which HURTS LIKE CRAZY when I tried to cut it or get rid of it. It's on all my fingers except my thumbs, and the pain is unbelievable when I try to cut it, so that's out of the question. I can barely cut my nails, I have to have them long and I'm a guy, can someone help me?

P.S: It's only on my handsI have a nail problem, I seriously need help?

That's called the edge of your nail bed. You're not supposed to cut it. Just make sure they're clean.

  • Army Basic Training = Nail Problem :( ?

    hi guys ..

a few months ago i dropped something on my big toe and now all of a sudden my nail is starting to crumble a little bit and yellow in some parts

i start my basic training in 20 days for the army and i been waiting for these days since i was a little kid and definitely don't want to wait any longer !! .... i don't want to fail the medical examination at the start of basic because of it!!

Do u think the army will allow it and let me carry on or will they say no go away for 6 months and come back when its better ?

Thanks .. jasonArmy Basic Training = Nail Problem :( ?
I was in the Army many yrs ago and can certainly relate to your anxiety. You definitely want to take care of this asap before you begin basic.

Here's what you can do about it. One of the most common infections that causes big toe toenail problems is fungal infection of the nail. This can occur with or without injury or inflammation of the toe, and once a fungus gets established in the nail, it is quite difficult to get rid of. It can also spread to the skin around the nail and to other nails. A fungal toe nail is usually yellowish or black, flaky or crumbly, and very thick. If you suspect you have a fungal nail infection, see your doctor for confirmation. Fungal infections can be treated with prescription drugs or over the counter remedies. There are many widely used home remedies as well.

Another thing that can turn your toenails black and cause big toe toenail problems is strenuous exercise in shoes that don't provide enough room for your feet. This is why you want to take care of this now before you begin basic training.

When the nails are subjected to repeated and prolonged physical stress, tiny blood vessels under the nail can break, causing what is essentially a bruise under the nail. If enough blood builds up to cause pressure, it can be quite uncomfortable. Your body will clear up the bruise over time, but you should purchase a good pair of shoes that won't cause a repeat of this injury.

Because big toe toenail problems are quite common, and can be caused by various different things, it's important that you get a proper diagnosis from a qualified physician. The kind of doctor you want to see is a foot specialist known as a Podiatrist. See if you can find a good one in your area.

For more info see below...Army Basic Training = Nail Problem :( ?
I dont think that the yellow crumbling apperance is because of your accident. It sounds like an infection. Ive seen ads on tv detailing a cream for the symptoms you describe. If there is something wrong with your nail there is a chance they wont let you continue until it clears up. that said it is 20 days away, go to a chemist and ask for a cream.

Also ask this in military section aswell, there are alot of recruiters there who can tell you more.

here is a link. i suspect this is your problem.

    Callus and toe nail problem.?

I don't know why this awful thing has happened to me but when I wore heels a lot I began to get a callus on not just one but both feet, my skin is dry, rough and irritating and one of my toe nails has begun to look strange, kind of thick and has little black lines coming from the pink part up to the white, I asked my doctor and the only answer I got was ';I don't know what that is';. What are the best ways to deal with my awfully embaressing foot problems I have going on. I want my feet back! Thanks everyone.Callus and toe nail problem.?
Go buy some tea bags (the cheap Lipton ones work just fine) , fill a container with warm water, let teh tea bags soak in it, then soak your feet for15minutes. Do this a couple of times a day. The sialic aacid in the tea will soften the callouses and aids in circulation.

It sounds strange but it's a good way to heal calloused feet without spending a lot.

    Recurring ingrown nail problem?

I had an operation once to fix it and they just took out the infection and it was fine for a couple of years. Last year it came back and in April I had the infection removed and part of my nail was removed so the problem would go away. Well while the toe was healing it got infected really bad so they had to give me an operation again. Now it's healed but I get pain every day. I tried running and it got red so I stopped. The toe is not red or anything but it hurts all the time. Every time I go to my doctor all they do is cut it. Antibiotics don't help and I don't want to have another operation. I don't have an ingrown toe nail anymore, I just have pain. Any ideas?Recurring ingrown nail problem?
in grown nails are caused by you cutting you nails wrong or wearing shoes that are to tight.Toe nail are to be cut straight across and finger nails at a curve.Recurring ingrown nail problem?
ask your doctor about using acid on the part of the nail that keeps getting infected so it wont grow back. Those things suck i'm sorry but having a part of your nail permanently removed will help you a lot.
a remedy is to cut the nail straight across when needed. If you feel a toenail hurting put a small amount of cotton under the corner of the nail to lift the nail up a little.A podiatrist taught me that many years ago and it works. Good luck.

Anything that causes you to clench your jaw - like nail biting, chewing gum - can cause TMJ...

Clenching: Someone who clenches continually bites on things while awake. This might be chewing gum, a pen or pencil, or fingernails. The constant pounding on the joint causes the pain. Stress is often blamed for tension in the jaw, leading to a clenched jaw.

If you continue to grind/clench your teeth, you will wear down your teeth and will have massive pain .. I would recommend checking out in purchasing a non-expensive One-Size fits all night guard.

One-Size Night Guards (night, sports, general, etc.) are definitely a viable option, if you are experiencing grinding, clenching, or bruxism. I would recommend checking out www.totalgard.com - They have some great night guards that eliminate the issues I mentioned earlier and they ship internationally too. They are a proven distributor online and everyone seems satisfied with the company. Their night guards range from $5.95-24.95. Custom mouth guards from your doctor can range from $300-500+ .. I hope this helps!

    German Sheperd Nail Problem?

I have a 3 year old male german shepherd who is having nail problems. It started about a year ago. He is having problems running at full speed, he sometimes wont let you look at his foot, and it hurts him a lot if he hits it. I started to give him omega 3 since I heard that could help. It worked but recently it seems that it is starting to bother him again even though he regularly takes an omega 3 solfgel tablet. Do any of you know what he has or what could help him.German Sheperd Nail Problem?
A dog's nails DON'T bend unless they have a massive overgrowth of the hollow half-tube that's ahead of the solid section that houses the quick.

As ';Nancy M'; points out, diagnosis without experience %26amp; professional training equates to hypochondria rather than useful diagnosis and proper remedial action. Asking dominated-by-know-it-all-kids YahooAnswers to diagnose on the basis of the tiny amount of actual REPORT you provide is two of the things I object to - it results in wrong diagnosis, it results in delaying the CORRECT diagnosis and the CORRECT treatment.

    Symptom:

    The dog is in pain.

    Advice:

    Take him to the vet.

Vets train for around 7 years, and understand the strange conglomerates of Greek %26amp; Latin used in medical reports. Even better, they can SEE what you thought you'd described, they can SEE and SMELL what you neglected to describe, and they can take scrapings to culture and/or inspect under a microscope. A good vet is worth every dollar you pay. Don't bother using the other kind of vet.

And if the problem IS that you let the ';filled'; part of his nails grow too long, the vet has the anaesthetic available so that he/she can cut right through the quick, and has the sealant available to stop the bleeding and to protect each tip until the quick recedes an eighth inch.

uh, are you keeping his nails properly groomed? If not, do so and the problem will remedy itself - some supplement isn't going to change that.

Nails shouldn't be 'bent' at all if they are properly groomed and kept back. It might be that the dog has some sort of fungal infection in his nails, which could indicate he is diabetic so supplements would be useless again. If it is a problem and he indeed does get his nails kept trimmed properly (where if they were they wouldn't touch the ground) then you likely need to take him to a vet and have him properly assessed medically. Omega 3 isn't going to do squat.

add: OH, so THAT is what the veterinarian diagnosed the dog with, right? Or is it just that you did some lame search and decided to be hypochondriacal for your dog? Keep searching and you can likely find a diagnosis that requires aloe supplementation to cure it as well! :) There is also a flat Earth society that proves that the world is and always has been flat - you can actually find web sites that will support any point of view :) Keep searching and find something even rarer to diagnose him with ... I get people in the ER all the time with the rarest of diagnoses of themselves that they have found on the internet -- might as well look for those Zebras instead of horses when you hear hoof beats, huh? people.... hahaha
It would be best if you can keep working on a 'foot' command so he will give it to you, but if it is already sore there may not be time to let that sink in. You may have to let the vet sedate him so you can get a good look at the problem and treat it.

    Good luck!
have you ever trimmed his nails? dogs nails need to be trimmed just like ours, but if you haven't trimmed his nails regularly, it's probably too late to start now. dogs have a quick that is inside of their nails, and it goes about halfway through the nail. it is a soft tissue that will bleed when cut, but the part of the nail nearest the floor has no quick and isn't painful to trim. if you don't trim your dog's nails, then the quick grows and grows until there is quick in ALL of his nail. then you can't cut them, and the nails continue to grow until the dog's nails curl under and start to agitate the pads, even getting so bad as to eventually puncture the paw. I know omega three helps make his coat shinier, but i'm not sure if it will help his nails. i would take him to the vet if you notice his toenails are touching the ground before his pads do. this basically would be like bending your fingers backwards every time you tried to pick something up, and can be very painful. i hope your dog can still be helped!

    Cracked toe nail problem?

So almost a week and a half ago, I was running in my hallway, but I slipped and rammed my big right toe into the wall. Now it has dried blood and there is a crack in the middle, about a cm's length uhm southward? Well the left side of that crack wants to come off and hurts when I put socks on. So I wear only the fluffy socks so it won't get snagged. I don't want to cut part of my nail off. Should I just wait weeks and keep trimming it so it will grow out? I don't know what to do.Cracked toe nail problem?
You can go to a doctor but it's not really necessary. Just cover it with bandaids/a bandaid and that will keep it from snagging. It it still hurts put some neosporin on it. Take the bandaids off to shower and recover when your toe is dry. When the tenderness goes away, just take nailclipper and clip it off. This has happened to me a million times, its really fine.Cracked toe nail problem?
I know this sounds painful and you don't wont to do this but,,I would go ahead and take the nail off all the way so the new nail will grow. Also if you do decide to do that just put 2 band aids around the toe while you have socks on to keep it from getting infected. It will more than likely be sore for about 1 week.

    Good Luck
This happened to my husbands thumb and I trimmed it and used crazy glue to keep it from getting snagged. It worked well. I also smoothed it with a buffing file.
I would go to a foot doctor and have THEM remove the nail completely. It doesn't hurt as bad as a cracked one getting snagged on a sock. And it will grow out quicker.

Don't worry, you'll be okay. Something similar happened to me, and both my big toe nails fell off. Go to your doctor to get some antibiotics -- you do not want an infection in there.

It took me 4-5 months to completely regrow my big toe nails. They looked normal enough after a couple, though.

Crazy Toe nail problem, help please?

So i have a story that goes along with this. I went on a canoe trip 2 weeks ago and I slipped in mud on one of the sand bars and ripped my toenail off. It didn't come off all the way so it just was sticking up and still attached at the cuticle. So when i got home I went to the emergency room thinking they would cut it off. but they didn't. they numbed my toe, put the nail back in place, and stitched it down with two stitches straight through my toenail. I pulled the stitches out a week ago. I left them in for 7 days like the doctor said. Well now, after a week with no stitches, the toenail is hanging there and is only attached by the cuticle. the toenail and the nail bed are completely separated. I keep a band-aid on it just so it wont get ripped off. My questions are.... Should I take it off myself? Should I leave it on there? Will it fall off by itself? Will it grow back normal? How long til it grows back? Please help.... i hate having to look at this nasty loose toenail... it makes me queasy every time i see it. HELP!Crazy Toe nail problem, help please?
I got queasy just reading the question. My husband lost his toenail at a Piston's game when some guy stepped on his foot. The pain and tenderness went away after a week and it took several months for the new nail to grow enough to cover the nail bed.

    Split toe nail problem.?

i have a toe nail thats split in half all the way down the center and its been that way for almost a year now. whenever i cut it, bump it, or hit it on anything it will break it back apart and the smaller part will bleed and get soaked with blood to the point that its soft and squishy, and bleed from under the nail, one of them seldomly has a clear liquid comming from it. and its split like that on 3 toes. i was thinking about getting new shoes that may be the case ive had these for over a year, they dont breathe properly which dosent help the situation. but something like this cant be fixed by switching shoes, what should i do and what is the problem? also one of the toenails are bent in a U shape and allways causes problems from having something dropped on it.Split toe nail problem.?
I think you need to make an appointment with a podiatrist (a foot doctor) as soon as possible. A lot of what you are experiencing is not normal and needs attention.

I had a frozen beef roast fall on my foot (fell out of an upright freezer) and smashed the nail on my one big toe. 5 months, 4 trips to the family doc and 3 courses of antibiotics and I was still having issues not to mention pain and limping. The foot doctor took one look at it and knew what the issue was. When my nail splintered, a piece was driven straight down and the family doctor didn't realize that. The foot doctor numbed my toe, removed the fragment and put me on another course of antibiotics for the infection. But it got better within a couple of weeks!Split toe nail problem.?
You probably had an injury to your foot that damaged the nail beds and is causing the nails to split in the matrix. If you really can't remember an injury, it would be a good idea to see a dermatologist or podiatrist to see what's going on.

The ';pinkie'; toenails often thicken and warp as we age, so that would probably be considered ';normal';.

    Dogs Toe Nail Problem, Unusual?

I posted this question a few days ago but due to Yahoo's maintenance the question was printed twice and did not post as it should.

My senior dog has a bad toe nail. I was sick so I didn't pay the attention to her licking her foot as I should have. She will do this if the hair between her toes gets too long. so I was not alarmed until I saw some blood spots.

She is a German Shepherd mix with black toe nails. This toe nail is split up the center on the underside and is totally white in color. It also seems hollow. Now, she was injured once by a groomer who cut the nails too short so she won't allow a groomer to cut them. I've tried and can't either. I muzzled her to look at this nail and she still squirmed and ran around. I cleaned the area and applied Neopsporin and it has seemed to help. But what happened? I have never seen a toe nail on a dog totally change color. Is the nail dead and ready to fall off? If you have heard of this or have any suggestions, please respond. Yes a vet will look at it if looks like it is becoming infected. She walks fine, it's just tender to the touch.Dogs Toe Nail Problem, Unusual?
I think the nail is dead. my suggestion would be to wait for a while, and if it doesn't fall of in about a week, then i would check to see if it's infected.

hope this helps!Dogs Toe Nail Problem, Unusual?
You need to go to vet now not later since it is already tender %26amp; she is licking area %26amp; you saw blood. By waiting you are risking a serious infection to be able to spread %26amp;being harder to treat. Better to be safe than sorry %26amp; to pay a small vet bill instead of a large vet bill %26amp; risking your pet health.
My bog also had a black nail not to long ago it split and then part of it fell off and then grew back...it should be ok ...dont warry unless it gets worse...then i would maybe try to put a rap on it to prevent him to getting to it but as of right now i would say just leave it to se can keep it clean...or her
please do not wait to see your vet. split toe nails are extremely painful and can become infected easily. the nail needs to be cut back.
i work at a vet office and you need to take her to the vet, the nail sounds dead but it needs to be removed. i don't know what they would do at your local vet, but at the vet office i work at we basically pull the nail completely off and bandage it. it needs to be removed because right now it is really sensitive and painful (think about cutting your nail to short and how it hurts, well think about splitting it completely to the skin, ouch)

    Hedgehog nail problem?

Hi, I have a quick concern about my little hedgehog. I havent clipped her nails in awhile just because it's so hard for me because she does not sit still what so ever. but I clipped them tonight and I noticed one of her front nails was like yellow.. and kinda gross looking. I couldnt tell where the quick was. So is this an infection or a dead nail... or something.. %26gt;_%26lt; you can put in your input if you own other small animals like rabbits because I would think this problem is not only with hedgehogs. lol.Hedgehog nail problem?
It's probably just a dead nail. Just be careful to not clip too much off. If you do catch the quick, dip the toe in flour to stop the bleeding. You can also post this question on www.hedgehocentral.com/forums in order to get more opinions from experienced hedgehog owners.

Serious Nail problem with large dog!?

My dog has very long nails, and I bought dog nail clippers to use for him, but he's always hated it. Its very difficult for me to cut them because he fights me, even when I have someone help. Anyway, the last time I tried, I accidentally cut his quick- I felt SO bad! Now he REALLY won't let me get near his nails. I'm getting concerned, because I can see his quicks are getting very long too.

My question is, is there any kind of sedative or something I can get for him to relax him enough to let me do his nails calmly, so I can make sure I don't get to the quick? I'd rather not bring him to the vet or groomers because I know its going to take several trimmings to get his quicks down to a healthy level, and I can't afford to bring him to the vet every single week.Serious Nail problem with large dog!?
The vet can sedate him, and then in one fell swoop cut all of the nails down to to correct length, quick and all. They will probably quick-stop or super glue the nail tips, and then wrap the paws up. His feet will probably be tender for a day or so, but then he should be right back to normal.

Or you can invest in a Dremmel... not a pedi paws, those are worthless. A dremmel will allow you to get super close to the quick without cutting into it. I lay my dogs on their back in my lap, and praise quietly while I dremmel away. I hold them in such a way, that if they start to struggle, I can just squeeze my legs and put my other hand on their chest and they can't get up. Trust me, it is going to be HELL the first couple of tries, but the worst thing you can do is let the dog up. The dog needs to learn that he must sit and tolerate, no matter what. Tough it out!Serious Nail problem with large dog!?
I have a very large Labrador who has fast growing nails. She used to hate to get her nails trimmed %26amp; fought me on it, but then I got a PediPaws. It was about $10 at Bed, Bath, %26amp; Beyond. The grinding on her nails scared her at first, but every time she would let me touch her nails with it (not even trimming the nail) I would give her a treat. Eventually she let me start filing her nails. Now she goes %26amp; gets the PediPaws, just because she knows she gets a special treat when I use it! Good luck. =)
My dog too, pedi paws didnt work he doesnt let me get around them. ive tried when he was sleeping, give him a treat, and ive gotton him used to me handling his paws, but he sees those clippers and freaks. So yesterday..took him to petco. gave him to the groomers and let them do it. theyre fast, and my dog is a tough 1. but they got the job done! its 10 bucks!
start over. Get him used to you just touching his feet and playing with his nails, then get the trimmers and get him used to touching his nails with them (don't clip just touch them to them)

Praise and give treats when he is being very good. You have to slowly get him to trust you again. One step at a time, also you can use a dremmel or a (pedipaws) and basically sand the nails down little bits at a time. The noise and vibration tend to scare dogs so you may have to slowly get him used to all that as well, but you're less likely to injure the quick with one.

I've had a friend who had a similar problem. It's from a calcium deficiency. Make sure you eat several calcium-filled foods such as milk and eggs, and perhaps buy some Vitamin E pills. Vitamin E repairs skin and finger-nail damage, and actually gives very noticeable improvement.Finger nail problem?
hmmm...you might want to go to the doctor. The last time I had abnormalities with my nails the doctor said, I had fungal infection, could be because I did to much washing. the doctor will give some medication, to be taken orally or applied medicine all depends on the stage of the infection, if that's what you are having that is.

    Acrylic Nail problem?

How do you do transparent acrylic nails with glitter? Do you purchase glitter powder and just mix it into the clear acrylic powder and make a L%26amp;P ball with acrylic powder like normal? Or is there such thing as glitter clear powder that is already mixed and ready to be used like normal powder?

I can't seem to find any glitter powder locally and I don't want to buy it online because I don't want to wait that long. Can I just go to a craft store and purchase some glitters and mix it with my clear acrylic powder and do my acrylic nails like normal?Acrylic Nail problem?
I've seen the glitter powders online and at my local Asian salons in the retail window. I don't know if they dip it or mix it into the ball. I do see the tips available in different colors online but haven't seen them in real life yet.

I do not do acrylics but I enjoy doing my natural nails several times a week. One day I'll start using the glitters I've been given by friends in the field.

I have a french manicure of acrylic nails with the tips blue.. and they look cool and all but i TOTALLY spaced out. I have to play the guitar.. which u cant do with acrylic nails. so how the hell do i get these off.. and dont say wait a couple weeks. I put nail polish remover on it but that didnt help loosen the glue. what can i do to get the nail off.. glue is too strong..??Acrylic Nail problem help please I want them OFF?
soak them in polish remover for a while. they should eventually get mushy.Acrylic Nail problem help please I want them OFF?
You actually have to soak them in acetone (nail polish remover) and get the one that is not formulate for acrylic nails. Also you can try to pry them off but that sometimes hurts. Additionally you can co back to the salon and they can file them down to a length that allows you to play the guitar and they can also remove them for a fee but really they don't do anything differently than have you soak for a while.
A nail salon can remove them, but it will take about an hour. I took some off myself once, and my nails were so damaged it hurt to put them in water. I suggest a salon (especially if you expect to play soon after).
you can soak them but usually i just take a metal nail filier and lift my edges until i can pull it off it might hurt a bit tho or you can goback to the salon and have them remove them for you
Soak your nails in an acetone polish remover. It might take a while for the glue to break down but the acetone will break it down.
Go swimming. Mine ALWAYS come off.
Use Allityuone or Cfererone .................. possibly Lognituty

    False Nail Problem Urgent!!?

I was putting false nails on, and I'd done most of them and i was putting one on my thumb but the nail wasn't the right size, so it wouldn't stick, so i tried putting it on three times (imagine thats alot of glue) and it still wouldn't hold down, so I decided to take them off an i couldn't find my acitone, and they weren't dry, so i just pulled them off. Most of them came off but a few wouldn't come off, I got two off with my teeth, then the last one i had to file off. I have got all the false nails off now, but now my nails are covered in nail glue and I don't know how to get it off, there is lots round the actual finger on the skin, so I bit the glue of the fingers, but now my nails and fingers really hurt.

What can i do to get the glue of, and

Is it ok that i bit the glue off?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated because Im really woried

ps its not my first time wearing false nails.False Nail Problem Urgent!!?
i have done exactly the same thing, dont worry, as long as you havent swallowed a lot of nail glue you will be okay.

the glue will come off your fingers in time, but to make it come off quickly get some nail polish remover and soak your fingers in that, you probably have some little cuts on your fingers from biting your nails off, so the nail polish remover will sting your cuts a little bit but it will get the glue off, hope this helped. merry christmas! xoFalse Nail Problem Urgent!!?
i wouldnt recommend you bite it off because i mean you shouldn't be putting glue in your mouth!

i would say just to file off what you can then go to the chemist and buy some acitone and soak your nails in them for about 20-30mins.

if you have any nail varnish remover that would work just like the acitone because it has acitone in it, obveousily unless its acitone free but it will clearly state on the bottle if it is hehe :) x x
i used to wear false nails a lot but now i just wear acrylics cos ma auntie does em i ave nails on now at this moment in time but soak them in hot water (not to hot) file them and buff them them put some cream on ya hands TRUST ME it works.

    Serious nail problem?

Since I can remember, I've always had ultra short nails. They were clipped by either myself when I was really young or by another person. They're clipped, not bitten, but they're jagged and at different lengths, which makes people think I do bite my nails. My nails are roughly half a centimetre from the tip of my finger and I feel terribly low in confidence. I hide my fingers whenever I need to pass something to someone or when I eat- they're too hideous to even look at. They're short and wide and I definitely feel less feminine as I don't paint my nails- they make my nails look even more noticeable than they already are. I admire people with perfectly manicured nails and pretty designs, knowing that I won't ever get my nails that nice. My actual question is, ';Is there a way to make the pink part of your nail grow back?'; My pink part is way below the tip of my finger and I'd really like for it to grow back, at least to the shape it used to be. Is there some kind of cream / oil / food / some place to go to repair my terribly grotesque nails? If there is a cure for this, I'd be overly appreciative. I've also heard that jello strengthens nails, would that work? Thank you so much in advance.Serious nail problem?
first of all, i feel for you. i used to have the same problem as yours (well, more or less anyway).

here are some ways to help you:

    1. try not to clip your nails that much. let them grow. it may take time but that's the way to go. let your nails rest from all the clipping.

    2. i read in one website once that petroleum jelly (Vaseline) helps strengthen your nails. rub some of it on your nails then leave it overnight.

    3. once your nails grow, always have an emery board handy at all times. carefully shape your nail into the shape you want it to be.

    4. also eat healthy foods especially fruits. the vitamins in the fruits actually helps the growth of your nails.

i know it may take time but patience can lead to greater results.

    good luck!Serious nail problem?
keep a healthy lifestyle! it might be a sign of a lake of vitamins. start improving your nutrition and keep them short for a while. Give them enough time to regenerate.. and maybe some homemade nail soaks would help. here are some cool recipe:

    hope it helped! good luck!
my nails are thin and brittle and always break, so i got acrylics you could get acrylic tips, overlay, gel nails, and there are more options
i have the same problem even boys have better nails than i do so i know how you feel however i do bite my nails
Are your nails pitted or do they have indents? This can be a sign of serious systematic issues and you should see a doctor.

The nail bed (the pink part) is responsible for the shape in which your nails grow. Is this scarred? This would also be a time to see your doctor, because scar tissue can affect it's growth.

This is a good website to visit, and can lead you in questions for your doctor, as they are the best ones to guide you in this situation.
