Hamster Nail Problems, Need Help?

Hello,

I have a black Russian Dwarf hamster, and I am having some major problems with her nails.

They grow really long, and at the end of the month her toes have to bend sideways to fit her nails! This can cause feet deformaties, and I honestly don't want that to happen.

She has a wheel that doesn't have any gaps, it's a solid wheel. She uses it 3/4 of the time she is up, so we know she is using it, and she loves it.

We want to clip her nails, but I am deathly afraid of cutting her Quick. Is there any SAFE and EASY way to trim down her nails without hurting her?Hamster Nail Problems, Need Help?
There is a product you can buy at hardware stores, it's similar to sandpaper however it's got adhesive on the back, it's used on steps and such to provide better traction. It comes in rolls, you can cut it into strips and then tape them to the inside of her wheel, that's how I do it. You can also try putting a piece of cardboard in her cage, or putting her in a cardboard box with a piece of sandpaper taped to the bottom, and let her wander in the box for a little bit.Hamster Nail Problems, Need Help?
I know its a real pain because you are really scared of cutting them because the move about!

What I do with my syrian is get her when she's like half asleep and turn her onto her back and get a pair of nail scissors and just clip about 2mm off depending on how long they are.

But also if our hamster would let you turn him upside down on his back whilst munching on a bit of broccoli or something try that, keep him occupied.

Good Luck!
well i had a hamster and he had long nails but not really long nails just have someone hold him and cut his nails. when you cut there nails try to stay as far away from his toe as possible to stop him from moving give him or her something to eat.. I did it all the time

GOOD LUCK =)
Take her to the vets x
